Its Monday...

and we are checking out this Panasonic AG-HMC40 to use as a backup camera. As it says on B&H's site, The Panasonic AG-HMC40 is a camcorder designed to record in high definition on standard SecureDigital (SD) and SDHC memory cards. The camera is extremely portable and lightweight, weighing in at a little over 2 lbs! We are definitely interested in it because of its image quality (HD, 1080P) and its weight as a solid backup camera. We are going to continue to shop around but at $1995, its not a bad deal at all. The only thing we are weary on is that it records onto memory cards instead of DV tapes.

District 9

was the #1 movie this weekend....and yes I went to go see it. First I have to say, that whenever I see that a film has a "presented by" (fill in famous director name)....I am a bit skeptical. However, this time around I was wrong and didn't regret shelling out 9 bucks (with student discount) to see a movie. Don't worry, I wont talk about too many specifics to prevent ruining it for you...But... District 9 presents a different approach on sci-fi genre, and was entertaining from beginning till the end because it presented a balance of popcorn movie special effects and story. Yes, it was a bit preachy at times, but you lose track of that and just focus on the story, the characters, and the great special effects...go see it now.

We will be bringing a light...

to help illuminate our next project for Citybeat. Late tonight, we will be filming the Midnight Madness Fun Bike Ride. We are going to be using two cameras for the shoot. 1 handheld dv cam on a bike, and the xh-a1 to capture the large establishing shots. We are going to be picking up a clamp to lock the dv cam to a bike and a small soft box for our video light. Should be a fun shoot.

If you are in San Diego this weekend, you definitely should be checking out the North Park Music Thing. The music festival is in full swing until tomorrow night. Clubs and music venues across San Diego are showcasing tons of up and coming bands and various industry expert panels are showcased in this event. We are filming two videos for the San Diego Music Foundation and for SD Citybeat. Hope to see you there.

Comic Con International returns to San Diego this week running from July 23-26. Not only is Comic Con overrun with Anime, games, and hordes of nerds, it is filled with filmmakers showing sneak previews of upcoming films to giving Q&A sessions and lots of swag. We would suggest picking up tickets if you haven't already but the convention sold out months ago...don't worry, there is always craigslist. This year the Comic Con International Independent Film Festival returns screening over 60 films...Now in its tenth year, the CCI-IFF is a juried event. Respected individuals in the fields of film and popular arts view the submissions and decide which films will be included in the four-day festival and those deserving of prizes and awards.

You be the judge

This year the San Diego Film Festival is hosting the You be the judge event at the Pearl Hotel in Pt.Loma. This event is a great opportunity to participate in selecting the films that will be showcased in the San Diego Film Festival September 23- 27. And for a $8 donation, you get a beer courtesy of Stone Brewing Co and a raffle ticket....sound's like fun...

Its Sunday night

and we have had a fun and productive weekend working on projects. We finished our video for Che Bella and have been editing a project we covered earlier in the week for Citybeat. We should have those projects posted on our site later this week.
Anyway, we took a break to research embedding high quality Youtube videos to websites and came across this interesting online tool...check it out. Its interesting because it still looks pretty compressed and choppy to us but still feel that this could be a useful tool....check out the example of our last uploaded project below.

but...we have been ridiculously busy the last couple of days....working on a project for Citybeat and filming a wedding...(great portfolio piece btw)...besure to checkout our latest project for them on Wednesday.

Anyway despite having lots of editing to do, we were able to get away to checkout Moon, a film by Duncan Jones...I will post our review soon.

Editing...

can be a fickle mistress. And although it's not as messy a job today as it was for the blokes in the picture, it can be just as exhausting. We are currently editing footage from the Art around Adams event that took place on Saturday June 6th. It was an interesting festival, with cool bands, artists, and quirky performers floating about. But there's a lot of footage to dig through and it's been a bit of a task determining which were the best clips to go with. However, we got some great soundbites from some of the musical acts which we're excited about highlighting. Anywho, we're thinking of taking a break to see Will Ferrell's new movie Land of the Lost that just came out. I don't know why. The trailer was corny, we didn't really laugh during it, and the reviews are less than complimentary . So like any good ol' Fruedian subject, we are going to plunk down $10 and see it, because every mental and social gauge says not to. We'll be sure to pass on our grumpy and unsatisfied review of the flick for you to ignore also. That's it for today. Have a great night!

So happy its Friday

We are very excited that its the weekend, as we have two projects this weekend to keep us busy. One of which is covering the Art Around Adams event for Citybeat. Should be a lot of fun as the all day event covers over 1.5 miles of art galleries, music, film screenings, and more. Be sure to check it out.

its been a busy week

What's up everyone....we've been busy planning for a couple of film shoots coming up the next couple of weeks...one of which is documenting the North Park Festival of the Arts. The event in the North Park neighborhood in San Diego features live music, arts and crafts, and a variety of other activities. Should be a good time.

Star Trek movie review

Aaw, Happy Mother's Day. I hope everyone handed their moms a pretty bouquet of flowers and a big wet one on the cheek today. After all, they are probably the most important people of all. Mom's are nature's way of securing everyone a personal cheerleader through life. And speaking of Mom's we saw a very important one this weekend when we watched the new Star Trek movie. Yes, as you can see in the photo, that is Winona Ryder playing Spock's mother. She has a small but very integral role in the movie that sets a lot of the action into motion.

We went to see the new Star Trek film last friday. I was anxious to see it since the Peter Travers review was good. The movie didn't disappoint. From the very beginning when you see what happens to Kirks father, to the episodes showing a pre-teen Spock and Kirk rebel in their unique ways, you learn so much about what shaped the characters and their behavior. And the movie has an awesome version of the future. It's a quirky, over-the top futuristic world that still has remnants of current times scattered about. Skyscrapers in farmtown Iowa. 1960's muscles cars being chased by flying robotic cops..Pretty cool. All in all we thought it was a fun film, that felt fresh and inclusive. Everyone seems to agree.

The short we are working on has an abstract narrative and relies on visuals and sound used in non-naturalistic ways to convey story. We should be posting some footage this week.
